China has its eyes on Danish nursing education. On March 18th, a delegation from China’s largest university of applied sciences, Beijing City University, visited VIA University College to sign a partnership agreement between the two institutions.

During the day-long visit in Aarhus, the institutions discussed a number of areas of cooperation, all related to the nursing profession. According to the MoU signed by the President of Beijing City University, Mr. Lui Lin, and Harald Mikkelsen, rector of VIA University College, the partnership includes a range of cooperation initiatives, including developing a nursing education, a double-degree, and a joint research center for the study of ageing and eldercare in Beijing.

Fruitful cooperation for both institutions

“We are very pleased to enter this partnership with one of China’s most important universities. We believe, the cooperation will be fruitful for both institutions and look forward to further discussions about specific activities,” says Harald Mikkelsen.

He looks forward to increasing the international opportunities for students, faculty and staff.

Result of bilateral agreement

According to the MoU, the aim of the new partnership is to “promote the advancement of international understanding, academic excellence, dissemination of learning and cross-cultural ties” between China and Denmark.

The new partnership was initiated by Beijing City University as a result of a recent bilateral agreement signed by the Danish and Chinese ministries of education. This agreement names nursing education as a key area of cooperation.

Beijing City University is China’s largest university of applied sciences, a status VIA University College holds in Denmark.
